6 years ago when the hubby and I began our Raleigh house search we wanted a short list of items: 3 bedrooms, a garage, and a decent-sized yard. Oh, to be young and stupid.
Lawn-care truly gives me heartburn and I’m going to be 100% up front here, because I know my husband is going to read this and his reaction to my reaction to lawn-care is most likely going to be laughter: I don’t take care of the lawn or anything near it. It never has been, and never will be, my job. I will DIY and renovate the crap out of the inside of the house, but don’t you dare ask me to mingle with the bugs and snakes of the typical North Carolinian lawn. After we moved and stumbled upon the following statistic I knew immediately that any hope for me and the great outdoors was lost: North Carolina has the 2nd highest snake population in the United States.
Ugh, why me.
What I am good at though, is suggestions. I’m a wonderful wife in that I can tell my husband exactly what to do, from inside the walls of our home. I have all sorts of good advice on trimming hedges, edging the lawn, murdering the weeds that pop up in the cracks in the sidewalk. Surely it is unsolicited advice, but advice nonetheless. 2 years and 1 day ago I married this really great guy. We married on a Friday afternoon on the Outer Banks of North Carolina under a beautiful lighthouse, about 10 hours after Prince William and Kate said “I do” in London. We were blessed with amazing weather and 45 of our family and closest friends surrounding us. At our casual, beach house reception we had our photographer take funny photos, ate key-lime cupcakes, and we danced the night away. For us, it was perfect.
This post sort of encompasses more than just this week coming up. As you all know from reading my Friday Surf Report that it was my birthday yesterday so I have been celebrating all weekend. Yesterday also marked six months since the husband and I said “I do”, tomorrow is Earth Day, which is awesome, and then next weekend is Crystal and her husband’s wedding anniversary! Lots of things to celebrate around the beginning of spring and I’ve always felt super blessed to have my birthday happen during such a beautiful time of the year.
This week, if it’s just an “ordinary” week for you, why not celebrate something? This list of unique holidays for the month of April has something for everyone. Eat jelly beans, pretzels, and pigs in blankets, hug a plumber and an Australian, all whilst speaking like Shakespeare! Or you can just make it simple and celebrate the beautiful weather coming our way. What will you celebrate this week?
