I love Central Park. I do. I love how you can stand inside the limits of Central Park and be completely aware of the hustle and bustle of New York City, but at the same time indulge in the calm and peace of nature. If I was a New York city gal I’d be in Central Park more often than not.
On our last day in the city my husband and I planned to have a Central Park picnic and spend the day relaxing and exploring the park. It was nice and exactly what we needed, but I have a few key tips:
- Bring a blanket to sit on
- Don’t forget the sunscreen
- Dress appropriately
I’ll just say we spent an awful lot of time looking for benches in the shade so that my husband wouldn’t get grass stains all over his khaki pants. Oy!
Despite it all we had a nice time, we stopped in at Dean & Deluca on the Upper East Side for sandwiches, fruit, and a black & white cookie to share. My husband said “That’s an expensive lunch,” and then after lunch, “that was worth every penny.” In the park we found a bench (partially in the shade) across from the lake and relaxed to the max. Things we spotted while people watching (1) a man removing his work suit down to his boxers so he could tan in the sun, (2) at least 3 dozen adorable dogs, (3) foreigners taking pictures of squirrels and (4) much more!
A few valuable resource for a picnic in Central Park:
- Great places to buy impromptu lunches for a picnic
- Best spots for a picnic
- A map of Central Park for exploring, you can also get a live map on your smart phone’s Google Maps app while in the park
Who doesn’t love a great picnic?! xoxo ‘n lols, crystal
