Since Carter was born, Jason and I have been really lucky to have family around to offer to watch him while we continue to have regular date nights. I have read so many places where this is so important in a marriage with kids, especially as new parents, so one of my goals was to make sure this happened. Last night, we had a really fun night trying new places downtown. I thought this would help make one of our first date nights after Carter extra special since we’re really familiar with most of what downtown Raleigh has to offer.
We headed down to the Warehouse District of downtown and checked out a few places for dinner. Since we arrived at the prime dinner time, the waits were around 1.5 – 2 hours. We decided to put our name in at Jose and Sons and, while we were waiting, head across the street for a beer and classic video games at Boxcar Bar + Arcade. A quick 15 minutes later, I get the text that our table is ready so we headed back over to Jose and Sons. We had their amazing guacamole and salsa for an appetizer and sangria and a beer. For dinner, I had the Chicharron and Waffles (crispy pork belly) and Jason had the Grilled Skirt Steak and Blackened Shrimp. My dish was pretty big. It was delicious but I was full about halfway though. Jason thought his dish was definitely worth getting again. They tempted us with dessert but we decided to head next door to Videri Chocolate Factory to pick up a made-in-Raleigh chocolate bar to save for later. Back at Boxcar, we spent our tokens playing Mortal Kombat, NBA Jam, pinball, and Pacman. It was fun reminiscing on playing these games when we were younger.
This morning we wake up and we’ve lost an hour of sleep but that only means that spring is right around the corner and I couldn’t be more excited. I’m ready to get this child out for some sunshine and fresh air, and for me too! Hope you all have a great week ahead! — Annie
