Dreaming of… Riviera Maya

Under the Oaks blog: Dreaming of... Riviera Maya #Mexico #honeymoon #travel #tulumThis was our view for eight glorious days.

In just over a month, Jason and I will be celebrating our one year anniversary! I feel like it flew by super fast. Since we’ve been doing a lot of traveling this summer, we probably won’t do a big trip for our anniversary. I think that’s alright with me because we wouldn’t be able to do it up right if we haven’t done any planning as of yet. We also have a wedding coming up early next year that will be bringing us to Denver! I am super excited about this trip and I’ll post more on that when it gets closer but that will probably be our trip-of-the-year so we will have to start putting money aside for those plans soon.

This past weekend Jason and I spent a few days out on Lake Gaston on the NC/VA line. The majority of our time was spent either in the water or on the water (in a boat) and it made me super nostalgic for our honeymoon in Mexico, when our daily agenda was waking up, eating breakfast, laying by the pool, laying by the beach, and deciding on which one of the 8 gourmet restaurants we wanted to try that night. So I wanted to share a few photos from that trip to Riviera Maya, the Excellence Riviera Cancun, and Tulum, one of the Mayan Ruins.

If you go to Tulum I advise against staying with the tour guide or, if you can afford it, take a private car. We had about 30 minutes total to explore the almost 17 acre ruins. Clearly there isn’t too much to see but this beach was and we didn’t get to have any fun. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and proud of the history of his culture so we loved him but… look at that beach!

If you want to read my review for the resort it’s posted to TripAdvisor here.

Have you been to this part of the world? What would you do differently on your next trip?
