It’s the last work week before Christmas break and, while you might be at your desk physically, your thoughts are red and green; finding recipes, shopping for last minute gifts, preparing the house for family coming into town or getting your bags packed to head somewhere else. But, alas, you have five more days when work need at least some of your attention. One of my favorite ways to stay focused and motivated, not just during the holidays, is to take a little while and plan ahead. In case you all haven’t noticed, I like having a plan. Most of the time I realize it’s a false sense of security but either way, it helps get me motivated and stay on point for a little while at least. The last week of the year is the best time to plan ahead. Here are some of the questions I ask myself to get me going:
- What projects need the most of your attention?
- Where can you step up your game?
- Where do you want to be in your career by June? December?
- What can you start doing January 2nd that will help you get there?
What do you do to prepare your work life for the new year?
